A Perfect Saturday in Hartwell

Have you ever wondered what a perfect Saturday in Hartwell would look like? Whether you’re a local born and raised, or one of our lovely summer visitors, there are so many wonderful things to do throughout our vibrant city.

  As someone who has grown up here, my perfect Saturday in my hometown has always started with a well-balanced, sometimes bacon-grease heavy, southern breakfast. My favorite spot for a great latte and enjoyable conversation is Common Ground, found in our quaint downtown area. I love a good blueberry muffin or a warm quiche to start my day off right. A Georgia staple will always be Waffle House, and I have to say nothing beats a pot of coffee and an all-star breakfast to fuel that long family day out on the lake.

After I’m done with breakfast, I like to go ahead and fuel that shopping addiction of mine with a nice walk through the downtown area. We have several boutique options that have grown to be favorites of mine such as Empire South, Banks Hollow, G’s Southern Traditions, BW Threads, and Harper Collective. If you’re someone that is into artwork I would recommend stopping by Twelve South Artisan Market. If you like to shop second-hand there are several thrift stores around such as South Forest Station, which benefits a local charitable organization.

Okay so now you’ve been shopped out and are looking for a great lunch spot. Some of my favorites in the downtown Hartwell area are Southern Hart Brewing Company, Little Japan, Downtown Café. If you’re looking to dining out on the water there are also some great options like Boathouse Grill, Tilly’s Tiki Bar and Grill, J.R. Cash’s Grill and Bar.

If it is a sunny Saturday in Hartwell, I’m of course out on the lake with family and friends. Now if you have a boat then you can just hang out on the lake, but for those of us who are boatless during the summer (me), I like to go to many different local parks in the area. These parks include Elrod Ferry Recreation Area, Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area, Hartwell Lakeside Park, Big Oaks Recreation Area, and so many more. These parks usually have playgrounds, picnic areas, and grills for all kinds of family fun.

After I have swam my heart out in the lake, I start to get hungry again. Many of the places mentioned above in the lunch section also have dinner options that are great. Some of my other favorite places are 329 Bar and Grill and Backstreet BBQ. There are also several options beyond Hartwell area that are great for any occasion.
